We set the scene in the 1930s where a family lets in a group of Christmas Carolers who all start reading "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. We are then transported to Victorian England.
The Carolers act as Narrators throughout the story and also act as all other roles requiring many quick changes and costume layering.
Scrooge enters in his business attire and changes into his robe onstage. For speed and comfort of the actor, he removed his hat, scarf, coat, and cravat and added his robe and nightcap over his pants, shirt and vest. this same change happens in reverse as he wakes up and gets ready.
The Ghost of Christmas Present has a Santa Claus aesthetic and is described as a giant. We built 6 in platform boots with wood and a rubber sole on a pair of Doc Martins, and we put padding under the robe so the actor was significantly larger compared to Scrooge.
The Ghost of Christmas Future is the largest and most ominous of the ghosts. It was built on a hiking backpack to add height and stability. We used a halloween skeleton for structure under the robe and added poles to the arms for mobility.
